By

SEO marketingSearch engine optimization is a term that you will hear a lot about as you begin your affiliate marketing journey. As you go down your internet marketing path you will hear many different terms that you may or may not be familiar with such as; SEO, search engine optimization, backlinks, page rank etc..

You should not be discouraged because you have no clue what they mean; most people who begin their affiliate marketing journey have no clue what any of it means. If you take the time to read this entire article you will have a better understanding of what some of these terms mean.

Search Engine Optimization (or SEO) is simpley setting up your site the way the major search engines such as; Google, Yahoo, and Bing want you to set them up. If you take the time to do this correctly from the beginning you will notice that you will be rewarded and your websites will be placed on the top positions of the search engines.

Now this may sound difficult because you have no clue how to set up your site; much less you have no clue what search engines are looking for. It is pretty simple; if you take a moment to search for something online, most likely you type in a keyword of what you are looking for. You will notice that the sites that come up are talking about the topic that you have typed into the browser.

SEO is divided into 2 major parts; it consists of on page optimization and off page.

On-Page SEO

This means that you have to set up your site within the website itself correctly. It all should begin with a keyword rich domain that tells people what your site is going to be about. Keyword research is one of the most important parts of SEO marketing; if you start out with a keyword that has too much competition or does not get enough searches every month; chances are you will not succeed as an internet marketer.

The next important thing that the search engines look for is internal linking. It is important that you learn how to link related pages that are in your site; this can help boost your search engine rankings over time.

Before you publish your site you want to ensure that your title tags and meta tags are labeled correctly. It may take some time to understand all this stuff; however if you get your page set up correctly from the beginning you will find it easier to get better rankings because the search engines will reward you for your work.

Off-Page SEO

This is just like it sounds; this portion of your internet marketing business is going to consist of gathering links to point to your website. Google seems to love websites that are popular; the website that has the most backlinks seems to win the rankings positions.

Now before you run out there and begin leaving anchor text links that point to your websites; it is important to realize that you want quality backlinks. The more relevant the links are to your webpage the higher your site will rank in the search engines.

As you continue your online journey you will begin to learn what quality backlinks are. It is going to take some time to understand how to build quality links; the best thing that you can do is visit several Internet Marketing Forums to learn as much as you can about off page SEO.

Now that you have finished reading this article you should have a better understanding of what Search engine optimization is. It is up to you to decide if you want to put in all the work that it is going to take or get your wallet out and pay for PPC or PPV; if you choose this route you better be prepared to pay a pretty penny.
